Job Goal/Summary:  Effectively implement a school-wide Career Related Education model to include work-based learning placements for all CTAE classes and/or program areas.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. An applicant to hold a T-4 or higher Georgia certificate or the equivalent from another state in one of the following program areas; Business, Work Base Learning Endorsement, or Marketing, when made available through Georgia Department of Education.
  2. Minimum of 5 years classroom experience in CTAE program area.
  3. Prefer WBL endorsement; applicant must be able to attend training to receive an endorsement in WBL.
  4. The applicant will become familiar with all program areas of CTAE in grades 6-12.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO, Superintendent or the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.     

RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include, but are not limited to, the following :)

·         Coordinates and implements Career Related Education (CRE) and work-based learning placements at the school according to the Georgia Career Related Education Manual; assist in coordination efforts to provide a full continuum of CRE activities for all CTAE classes in grades 6-12; and provide WBL placements for students in all CTAE classes offered in the school.

·         Serves as a liaison between the school, parents, the community, business and industry, and postsecondary institutions. Work with middle schools that feed the high school and provide information to assist in career awareness and career exploration.

·         Assists in securing qualified guest speakers and resource people for the related instruction classes. Assist in planning career-related field trips.

·         Continuously monitors the appropriateness of instructional content of related classes with respect to required occupational skills and shared conclusions with teachers and school administration. Prepare materials to be used in planning lessons for integrating employability skills with academic and technical skills.  Conduct sessions in CTAE classes regarding employability skills. Examples of such lessons are: work ethics, completing job applications, resume writing, interviewing skills, maintaining student portfolios, etc.

·         Arranges for reasonable work schedule and wages to be paid to trainees, and in the case of Youth Apprenticeship placements, ensure that a progressive wage scale is established.

·         Works cooperatively with guidance counselors, classroom teachers, and the administrative staff in the school to select, schedule, grade and award credit to students in correctly identified and appropriate WBL placements.

·         Maintains teacher certification in the Work-Based Learning credential, participate in applicable professional learning and state-sponsored training for WBL coordinators, and keep technologically current.

·         Maintains membership in professional organizations. Attend and participate in local, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.

·         Maintains an advisory committee for WBL or attend advisory committee meetings of the related CTAE instructional programs to ensure that WBL is included as a part of each advisory committee.

·         Provides bulletins, trade magazines, presentations or other appropriate resources for use in the related instruction classes.

·         Conducts community surveys, placement and follow-up studies, and job analysis studies. Speak to all CTAE classes about opportunities in job shadowing, entrepreneurship, internships, cooperative education, and the Youth Apprenticeship Program.

·         Places students on legitimate program related work sites, which are in keeping with student’s tentative career interest areas. Ensure that the WBL placement category chosen is correctly implemented.

·         Discusses on-the-job deficiencies and problems with each student individually and offer encouragement and suggestions for improvement. When the student is in a cooperative education class, discuss findings about on-the-job deficiencies with the related instruction teacher.

·         Confers with parents and other faculty members as to the progress of WBL students. Meet with related instruction teachers/mentors to share feedback received from employees.

·         Visits prospective employers to maintain communications and/or select appropriate work-training sites. Educate employers about mentoring and facilitate the employee mentoring process.

·         Develops and maintains an up-to-date occupational file of potential employers in the community based on periodic contacts with prospective employers.

·         Coordinates the student application process for students in WBL placements. Process student applications and interview students as to their interests, experience, and training and counsel them on employment opportunities.

·         Monitors the work-based learning program for compliance with state and federal regulations and inform the employers of these regulations regarding training, child labor, safety, etc.

·         Prepares the training agreement and develop an educational training plan for each student in cooperation with the training sponsor, student, school administration, and parents/guardians.

·         Makes regular visits to student work-sites and confer with on-the-job supervisors at regular intervals to check and evaluate students for grading purposes.

·         Maintains student records with data collection methods and procedures as prescribed by CTAE division of the Georgia Department of Education. Prepare and submit all necessary local and state reports.

·         Assists teachers in related instruction classes with organizing and implementing activities of the related student organization (CTSO). Serve as sponsor of a CTSO where needed and appropriate.

·         Ensures that Tech Prep is part of the Program of Study/Pathway, where appropriate, for WBL students and assist WBL students with articulated credits and postsecondary transitions.

·         Builds a strong program of public relations and sponsor and employee-employer appreciation breakfast, luncheon, banquet, reception, or other suitable activity. Speak at PTA and other community meetings where parents and stakeholders are present.

·         Works with school personnel as needed to provide services for students with disabilities.

·         Assists graduates in locating full-time jobs in his/her field of training or placement in a postsecondary school.

·         Other duties as assigned.  

Physical Requirements:

Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Light Work:  Exerting 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment:

       Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule.  Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.

Evaluation:

          Performance of this job will be evaluated by the CEO.
