Job Goal: To contribute to the efficient operation of the Transportation Department so that it can play an effective role in the education process. To ensure students' safe and efficient transportation by building, coordinating, and maintaining routes and managing the effectiveness of the routes.
Qualifications:
1. Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Must possess knowledge and experience in computer applications.
3. Possession of commercial driver’s license (CDL) and applicable endorsements is desired.
4. Possess three years’ experience in busing operations to include knowledge of day to day bus operations, routing and scheduling.
5. Three (3) years’ experience as a school bus driver may be considered toward experience requirement.
6. Ability to effectively plan and organize
7. Ability to effectively coordinate, process and maintain paperwork, routing materials and departmental operations manuals.
8. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, drivers/monitor, administrators and the community at large.
9. Specific knowledge of local, state and federal laws relating to student transportation.
10. Ability to update, evaluate and incorporate local, state, federal and systems laws and policy in to department programs.
11. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
12. Knowledge and experience in computer operations and software application to include, but not limited to Word, Excel, Access.
13. Also possess the ability to learn new applications associated in routing and boundary planning software.
Responsibilities:
· Prompt and regular attendance
· Assists in working with bus drivers on a daily basis.
· Assigns bus routes and drivers.
· Tracks transportation vehicles.
· Assists in modifying bus routes when changes in population demographics occur.
· Arranges substitute bus drivers, stand by drivers, monitors when permanent employees are absent and provide adequate coverage to meet the transportation needs of the students.
· Assesses incidents, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
· Assists with the evaluations of bus drivers and monitors.
· Acts as liaison with school personnel and parents that have complaints and/or special request.
· Takes an active role in helping to solve disciplinary problems occurring on school buses.
· Assists in investigating accidents involving bus operators, recommends appropriate disciplinary action, and consults with Director of Transportation when discipline problems are traffic violations occur involving bus drivers.
· Coordinates annual safety training workshops.
· Attends system, community, and state meetings relevant to job.
· Assists in updating transportation handbooks, pre-trip inspection books, and route books.
· Participates in professional learning as needed or required to remain current in all aspects of job responsibilities.
· Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.
